Motherhood

Got milk?

You were crying
Your tiny body tortured by the pain
Twisting and tossing
Twisting and shouting

Babies poop
Babies cry they would say
I listened to the voices
It kept going

I walked for miles to relieve you
Make you feel a little better
Movement helps alleviate
The symptoms I later discovered

In the midst of the heat wave we drove together
To the sweetest nurse ever
Who hinted that you might suffer
From a milk and soy allergy my mini warrior

I removed it all and things went smoother
I could feel you now more calmer
Your smile now even bigger
You grew stronger and stronger

You’re the one with the illness
Yet I’m the one getting healed
My turn now to twist and bend
My once-upon-a-time rigid regimen

For you I’ll do it all
I’ll eat meat, I’ll eat carbs
I won’t take a bite of the bitter chocolate
You happy beyond my body is what makes life sweet now
