New Year intentions
I was talking to a friend, who asked for some writing prompts or visioning exercises for the New Year.
I’ve been doing those for years, in multiple iterations. Some more complex, others quite simple. Yet, no matter the format, I feel this is a very interesting way to look back at your life, and project yourself into the future.
Lesson #1 – Headspace is everything
I easily get excited about all the potentials when doing vision boards or when answering writing prompts. That’s great. You need that wild imagination and safe space to allow yourself to dream bigger.
However, what I’ve realized over the years is that it’s not any big dream or BHAG you’re trying to get to, it’s yours. It’s not so much an exercise of projecting yourself into an imaginary future that fits within the culture, it’s about revealing what your highest destiny is. Revealing is the key word here. Your soul already knows, the work here is to uncover your deepest desires.
Hence a relaxed state is almost mandatory. You’re getting into a portal, a time machine that will take you to your most beautiful fulfilling future. You don’t have to force things, pictures and images will come to you. Those are what your soul is calling for, this is what I feel is the most potent energy to translate into your vision board or journal.
Lesson #2 – Let go of what isn’t you
Following a similar train of thoughts, it’s interesting to look back at your past journals and vision boards to see what comes back year after year, without ever getting accomplished.
Most of my intentions for the last years have been fulfilled, yet there are always a couple that come back again and again. This year, instead of feeling guilty for not doing enough to get those nailed, I reviewed them with curiosity. I’m opening myself to more possibilities. What if they didn’t get fulfilled because they aren’t meant to be? Is this truly what I desire, or is it something I believe I should have, a destination I should get to?
This won’t apply to all your unfulfilled intentions of 2022. Sometimes, we live in multiple timelines, and it’s not because it didn’t happen on a specific date and time that it’s not meant for you. But if it has almost become an habit to put that intention down, and somehow you never found the energy or excitement to follow through, maybe it’s time to let it go.
Lesson #3 – Have fun
This is your time. This is your life. This is your party.
Nobody gets to decide what goes onto your vision board. You’re the master of time and space. At all times, you get to decide what path to take, what will be your next adventure. The past has nothing to do with your potential future. I know it’s hard sometimes to believe that, but you really do get a fresh start whenever you decide you want one.
So go ahead and do it. Have fun no matter what. This isn’t meant to be another management system for your life, with objectives, status and KPIs. This is a tool to make sure you stay true to your course for a happy life. Make it fun.
Wishing you the best New Year, happy 2023!
